Isopropyl Alcohol

Understanding Isopropyl Alcohol: Concentrations and Grades:
70% IPA: Disinfection & Sanitation
- Composition: 70% IPA, 30% purified water
- Best for: Disinfecting surfaces and tools
- Why it works: The water content slows evaporation, allowing longer contact time with cell membranes - killing bacteria through dehydration more effectively than higher concentrations
99% IPA: Electronics & Industrial Cleaning
- Best for: Electronics, electrical contact cleaning, optical surfaces, and drying sensitive laboratory instruments
- Why it works: Near-zero water anhydrous content means fast, residue-free evaporation with low oxidation risk to components
- Disinfection note: Less effective than 70% - higher concentration can coagulate surface proteins, preventing deeper cellular penetration

Grade Glossary - IPA
ACS Grade
Meets American Chemical Society purity specifications - the highest reagent standard. Required for analytical chemistry and critical lab work.
USP/NF Grade
United States Pharmacopeia / National Formulary. Required for pharmaceutical and health & beauty applications. All Pharmco IPA meets both monographs simultaneously.
LTL / Hazmat Note
IPA is a flammable liquid (Class 3 hazmat) and cannot ship via air.
55-gallon drums require an LTL freight carrier - residential delivery not available.
